COVID-19 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)

Duncan Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Tom Deighan confirmed a possible COVID-19 exposure at Mark Twain Elementary on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

According to Deighan, “individuals at Mark Twain have been quarantined by the State Department of Health due to a possible COVID exposure.”

“We have no evidence that this involved any other classrooms or schools,” Deighan said. “According to State Department of Health officials, this is simply out of ‘an abundance of caution.’ This is simply to be extra safe.”

Deighan said all staff and parents of students involved in the quarantine had been contacted personally as of Wednesday. If you have not been contacted, you or your child are not affected, Deighan said.

“We are simply notifying everyone as early as possible to be as transparent as possible,” Deighan said. “Due to privacy laws, we cannot share any information about students or staff. We appreciate the State Health Department for guarding the safety of DPS students and staff.”

So far, Duncan Middle School has reported three possible exposures, Duncan High School has reported one possible exposure and Will Rogers Pre-K also reported a possible exposure. This is the sixth possible exposure reported this school year in Duncan’s district.
