Fiber internet options will make their way into the homes and businesses of the Duncan community in the next few months.
On Wednesday, Aug. 10, The Duncan Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting with Dobson Fiber at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center in Duncan. The ribbon cutting signifies Dobson Fiber’s launch into the City of Duncan to get fiber internet into Duncan’s homes and businesses.
Through this process, Duncan residents will see more choices when it comes to internet options within the community.
Francisco Maella, CEO at Dobson Fiber, said after beginning the project in 2021, they are preparing to begin their service.
“Dobson began this multimillion dollar project to build a fiber network throughout Duncan in October 2021 and we are nearing completion and ready to take orders for service,” he said. “We have worked hard to bring the best fiber network offered in the United States, capable of delivering residential speeds up 10 gigabits per second and 100 gigabits per second to business customers.”
Maella said their business has deep roots in Oklahoma.
“Our commitment to launching innovative products and the latest technology is unwavering to the businesses and residents we serve,” Maella said. “We have been in telecom since 1936 serving local communities, and this is another example of our commitment to deploying fiber-based networks in all parts of the state.”
Matt Milliron, Chief Revenue Officer for Dobson Fiber, said they are excited to be apart of the Duncan community.
“We have been here for several years serving business customers and we are excited to extend fiber internet offerings to residential customers,” he said. “We’ve seen exceptional customer adoption this year in markets we serve and are thrilled to further our footprint in more markets across Oklahoma and Arkansas. We have expanded our fiber network to reach the vast majority of the homes and businesses here.”
Milliron said Dobson Fiber recently launched a ground breaking within the City of Duncan where they committed to build fiber to many residents and businesses.
“We’re starting to turn on all our zones to install the fiber infrastructure at some of our residences, here locally,” he said. “We’re really excited and thrilled that the time’s finally come to be able to start offering the service to these residents.”
According to Milliron, the ribbon cutting launched their first zone.
“Several of our communities we build come up in zones,” he said. “As a result of them being turned up in zones, there is a coordinated effort — the first zone should start installing within the next couple months and inside Q4 of this year, which is exciting.”
According to Milliron, they have served the City of Duncan for many years on the commercial side, along with the business to business efforts.
“Dobson Fiber currently offers residential fiber internet services in nine Oklahoma communities including Atoka, Duncan, Enid, Lawton, Newalla, Panama, Shady Point, Waurika and Weatherford in Oklahoma,” a release states. “Dobson Fiber recently announced 12 more fiber network commitments across Oklahoma and Arkansas in Barling, Cheyenne, Clinton, Elk City, Erick, Fort Smith, Guthrie, Marlow, Muskogee, McAlester, Taloga and Vici with additional community commitments announcing soon.”
According to a release, with the construction nearing completion in the geographic zones, Dobson Fiber will let residents know when they may begin to sign up of service.
