Duncan High School’s band hit high notes and took home top awards at a recent competition.
The DHS band traveled to Elgin to compete in the Southwest Marching Showdown on Oct. 3.
The band performed their contest show titled "If I Only.” The show featured music from the group Radiohead and also from Pink Floyd as well as music from the "Wizard of Oz.”
DHS Band Director Jeramy Haas said: "I've really enjoyed working on this music with the band members. It's a lot of fun to play and I feel the band is doing a great job on it."
With the only marching contest this season for the band to participate in, they took home numerous trophies.
Awards included Outstanding Drum Majors, Outstanding Colorguard, Outstanding Drumline, High Music Score, High Visual Score, 1st Place in Class 5A and Overall Winner in Class 5A.
According to Haas, the contest is used as a way to get outside judges’ comments and critiques. It’s a way to allow the band to get better and prepare for their Regional Marching Contest at the end of October.
"We are so glad that we can participate in this thing called marching band," Haas said. "Thank you to the Duncan School Board and all of the school administrators for their support so as to allow us to continue performing."
The band received straight ones in their performance for a superior rating.
