Stephens County Commissioners met Monday, Nov. 9 for a regular meeting during which they approved a bid for the Bray Fire Department and honored a lease agreement with Comanche Fire.
The board opened project bids at 9:45 a.m. to discuss and award the lowest and best bid for the purchase of one used 2003 tanker/pumper fire truck for the Bray Volunteer Fire Department.
With one bid in, the board awarded the bid to B & P Apparatus for the amount of $55,000. The truck will be available for pick up on Nov. 10.
The Board also approved their intent to honor an agreement made between American National Bank and the Stephens County Board of Commissioners on behalf of Comanche Fire Department for the lease purchase of one Sutphen Commercial Wetside Tanker/Pumper in the amount of $329,645.53 at a 2.25% annual rate consisting of 84 monthly payments in which said agreement will be renewed each fiscal year until completion of agreement terms.
Jenny Moore, Stephens County Clerk, said it would be around an 11-month agreement.
“The bank just wanted a confirmation — just wanted something saying we do intend to follow though,” Moore said.
Finally, the Board tabled a discussion regarding the use of the Stephens County Fairgrounds as a public shelter for two weeks. The board will revisit this item on Nov. 23.
Before closing the meeting, the board heard from Commissioner Russell Morgan regarding the Stephens County Fair and Expo Center.
Morgan said they were still cleaning up from the Fall Classic.
“Not a lot going on out there,” Morgan said. “It’s slowed down a little bit. We have the youth rodeo this Saturday and Sunday.”
In other news, the board approved:
• A cooperative agreement for the purpose of making conservation works of improvement to diminish erosion and siltation of right-of-way between John Gilby and Stephens County. The county approved to rework a ditch for approximately three-tenths of a mile within Section 22, Township 1 South, Range 4 West in District #2.
The Stephens County Commissioners meeting will convene again at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 16 in their office of the Stephens County Courthouse, located at 101 S. 11th Street.
