Duncan city seal

Social distancing was in full affect at the Duncan City Council meeting Tuesday, March 24.

With a council member, city manager and city attorney spread out across the room in the audience, there were no guests in attendance at the regularly scheduled Tuesday meeting. While the council is not yet closed to the public, city council has always aired the meeting on public TV.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the April 7 general election will be rescheduled to June 30 to vote for Ward 1 and Ward 2 for City of Duncan. Due to an election emergency declared by the Oklahoma State Election Board, city leadership approved extending the terms of office for Ward 1 and Ward 2 council members Jimmy Peters and Dr. Mike Nelson to remain in their position until the first Monday in July, following the rescheduled general election.

In other council news, the board approved:

• Declaring a Glock 17 as surplus equipment to be given to Master Officer Clifford English as part of his retirement compensation.

• An annual consumer price index increase of 1.52% per a contract with Waste Connections for sanitation services.

• Payment to RCJ Construction for $44,750 for work completed on the three new restroom shower facilities at the lakes.

• Pay request 11 in the total amount of $80,058.11 to Freese and Nichols for the Clear Creek Lake Spillway Project.
