July made it’s appearance and the traditional event everyone has waited for will take place this weekend.
For many, the World’s Largest Garage Sale is a tradition and a must-do when coming to town every July and this year it will continue like the years past.
On July 16-17, the community-wide event will take place for all who want to participate.
Chris Deal, Chairman and CEO of the Duncan Chamber of Commerce, said during the Virtual Chamber Breakfast last Thursday, the yard sale began 36 years ago in 1985.
“It’s really organic and kind of an opportunity for people to just come into the community and have fun,” Deal said.
The World’s Largest Garage Sale falls the same weekend as the Josh Boland concert on July 17.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with Jarrod Morris kicking off the show at 7:30. The concert will end at 11 p.m.
In the past, the World’s Largest Yard Sale started as a way for families to get some back to school shopping in early. Many traditions started here because of this reason.
The tradition has grown and become so much more over the past years.
Merchants are encouraged to run specials, whether it’s like they did in the past by running specials in their store or setting merchandise on the sidewalk.
Deal said this type of event usually brings thousands of people into Duncan.
Anyone wishing to get involved can do so, though they should contact City of Duncan to see if permits or anything like that are required for where they plan to host the sale.
Waste Connections will pick up trash on World's Largest Yard Sale days this year.
“There may be an unsafe area or two that they may have to bypass,” reads a statement from City of Duncan. “They are going to run the route as planned and normally scheduled.”
Along the lines of the World’s Largest Garage Sale in Duncan, Marlow will host their Second Chance Trade Days on July 16-17 for the 22nd year.
Community members will have anything from estate sales, garage sales and moving sales for people to browse through.
