Although the COVID-19 pandemic is lingering, Charis Center has said the show will still go on as they prepare for this year’s Comedy & Coffee event.
The event, in its fifth year, will take place Nov. 12 at the Simmons Center to allow room for social distancing, according to Charis. Masks will also be encouraged.
According to Charis Center, the event features a “clean comedy show” and tickets will also include coffee by Viridian and sweets from Special Days Cake Boutique. The show will return comedian Bob Smiley to the stage, after a hit performance last year will bring him back to headline the event again.
“Bob is one of our nation’s most in-demand and hilarious comedians,” Charis Center stated in a press release. “He has been on several tours with Tim Hawkins, and is ready to share his humor again with our community at a time when we all could use a good laugh.”
The Comedy & Coffee event serves as a fundraiser for Charis Center, which is a nonprofit organization offering “pregnancy-related services to women and families in Stephens County by providing medical-grade pregnancy tests, ultrasound and Empowered Parenting Classes where baby bucks can be earned for baby items — new car seats, cribs, formula, diapers, etc.” All of these services are provided to the community for free.
Kimberla Treat, Executive Director for Charis Center, said because the organization is “completely funded by local donors,” the event “is vital to making sure we are able to remain open and offer hope and help to women and families.”
Tickets for the event are $30 each or two for $50 if purchased ahead of the event. Tickets can be purchased at Charis Center, located at 1700 W. Jones. Ticket prices at the door will raise to $40.
Doors open at 6 p.m. for coffee and dessert. There will also be a photo booth and live entertainment.
