Candidate declaration filings will open for some school board seats and for positions on City of Marlow’s Council in early December.
According to Stephens County Election Board Secretary Angela Dunagan, filling will begin Monday, Dec. 2 and will remain open until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Candidacy filings include municipal officers in the City of Marlow for Ward II and Ward IV. Ward IV will have an unexpired term. Municipal offices at stake in Marlow will go to vote in a non-partisan primary election scheduled for Feb. 11, 2020. If necessary, a general election will take place April 7, 2020.
On an educational stand point, filings will open for Office No. 5 in Duncan, Comanche, Marlow, Velma-Alma, Empire, Central High, Bray-Doyle and Red River Technology Center school districts. In Grandview’s school district, the opening is for Office No. 2. Southern Oklahoma Technology Center’s School District in Carter County will also have Office No. 2 available for filing.
The primary for school districts is also Feb. 11, 2020, and a general election for the board of education seats will take place Tuesday, April 7, 2020. However, if only two candidates apply for a position, the position will go to vote in the general election April 7. The primary election will only be held if more than two candidates apply for a seat.
If no candidate in the school board races receives more than 50 percent of the vote, then the two candidates with the highest number of votes will face off in April’s general election.
To file, visit the Stephens County Election Board at 101 S. 11th Street, Duncan between Dec. 2 and Dec. 4. The filing period closes at 5 p.m. Dec. 4.
