The Christmas season is officially upon us and one of the staples in Duncan is ready to light up the night to get in the holiday spirit.
The annual 905 Christmas in the Park is scheduled for Dec. 5 at the Rock Island 905 Depot, located in Fuqua Park. Hot Chocolate and cookies, courtesy of Edward Jones, will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the tree lighting and 905 lighting will take place at 7 p.m. sharp, according to Mike Stuckert, President of the Rock Island 905 Museum.
The event, dubbed Christmas in the Park for the last several years, is free to the public.
“The last two or three years, we’ve had 200 to 300 people show up,” Stuckert said.
Stuckert said in mid-November he had spent the last four or so weeks working to light the 905 locomotive.
“There’s a lot of Christmas lights on that thing,” Stuckert said.
The event will feature Santa and his elves. A photographer won’t be available, so Stuckert said to bring your cameras or keep your cell phones on you in case you want to snap some photos.
As always, the event will keep going until the last kid leaves.
