Duncan City Council will see a new leader take the helm following an election Tuesday night that declared Robert Armstrong the winner.
According to unofficial election results, Armstrong, who took on Ward 3 Councilwoman Patty Wininger, won with 1,395 selections or 56.02% of the vote over Wininger, who garnered 1,095 votes or 43.98% favor.
The Duncan Banner attended Wininger’s watch party on Tuesday evening and have spoken with both Armstrong and Wininger. Staff will update the story with more information Wednesday morning.
In other elections news:
• Mechelle Ashford retains the Empire Public School Office #1 seat by earning 66.04% or 70 votes against Jerry Thomas Whatley, who earned 36 votes or 33.96% favor.
• Kim Dumas and Bobby Jo Womack earn trustee seats in Velma-Alma. Dumas took 48 votes and 41.03% favor while Womack had 40 votes and 34.19% favor. Competitor Justin Tugmon took 29 votes or 24.79% favor.
Unofficial election results will receive certification from the Stephens County Election Board later this week.
