A college organization local to the area set out to make a cleaner place for others to enjoy this weekend.

This year, the Cameron University’s accounting club set out to represent the OSCPA (Oklahoma State Certified Public Accountants) for their day of service at the park. The club took on their act of service on Saturday, Oct. 10 to cleanup up around Kiddieland at Fuqua Park in Duncan.

Desiree Miller said every year they’ve done this for giving back to the communities.

“We’ve been participating in this for five years now,” Miller said. “This year we’ve had enough people to where we can split up. We have two groups that are going on in Lawton and one group in Duncan.”

With the accounting club growing, they are able to cover more ground on these service days.

Bernadette Lonzanida, CPA and Instructor in Accounting said in a statement every October, the OSCPA unites for the annual Day of Service.

“This is the seventh year that the OSCPA is doing this event and Cameron students have been participating for the past five years,” Lonzanida said. “CPAs, co-workers and accounting students participate to make a positive impact in their respective local communities.”

Joining Miller for the cleanup day were Logan Dennis, Barbara Anderson, Natacha Fields and Kimberly Criss as well as guests who came along to help out also.

Along with the Duncan service crew, the accounting club members with the Lawton campus cleaned up two parks, including The McMahon Ballpark and Kids Zone.
