Jack Guthrie

DUNCAN — Jack Guthrie, 82, of Littlefield, died June 10, 2014 at UMC Health System in Lubbock.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2014 at Littlefield Cemetery in Littlefield.

Arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home in Littlefield.

Jack was born Nov. 15, 1931 on their family farm southeast of Spade.  He was raised in the area and attended school at Hart Camp.  Jack served our country in the United States Army.  During his tour of service, he was stationed in Korea.  After returning from his time in the service, he spent the rest of his life farming between Spade and Hart Camp.  He was a lifetime resident of Littlefield except for the three years he spent in Korea.  

Survivors include his wife, Johnie Guthrie of Littlefield; his children, Earl Davis of Spade and Gayle Tracey-Mull and husband Steven of Frankston, Texas; four grandchildren, Bethnie Tracey, Kathleen Tracey, Stevie Davis, and Jason Davis; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Billy Guthrie and wife Cheryl of Littlefield; and a sister, Georgia DeBusk and husband Davis of Abilene.

    Despite facing a rigorous schedule, Duncan was picked by VYPE’s preseason football preview to return to the postseason after a one-year hiatus.
    With new coach Craig Benson taking over this season, the magazine predicted Duncan will finish fourth in Class 5A District 1 ahead of Chickasha and behind Ardmore. The Demons are also ranked as the No. 16 team in the Class, with Lawton Mac being the highest ranked team in the district at No. 4.
