The Board of Stephens County Commissioners voted to deny a lease agreement with the City of Duncan in Monday’s meeting.
The requested 2.94 acres of land was located between the Stephens County Fair & Expo Center. The lease agreement would have charged the county $.12 per square foot, which would total $13,000 per year.
The commissioners decided this amount was unaffordable.
Stephens County Fair & Expo Center Director Mike Anderson said the land was originally to be used as either a location for housing additional permanent horse stalls or as storage space for equipment and materials, which would allow them to free up extra space in the parking lot.
The commissioners also voted to accept three bids for medium to large flake wood shavings for the Stephens County Fair & Expo Center. All bids were accepted that in case of an immediate need that would cause them to order shavings from a more expensive supplier with a shorter delivery time. The center will typically be ordering from Agri-Tex Wood Shavings, which charges $3.85 per bag.
After Monday’s meeting, the Stephens County Courthouse is expected to have a central mail center as requested by the United States Postal Service. Mailboxes will be installed within the courthouse to reduce the amount of time it takes for the carrier to deliver mail to each office. The USPS will be covering the initial cost of the box. Each office will be assigned a box with a few extra for the courthouse to use if needed.
In other business, the board approved:
- A lease agreement, maintenance agreement and sales order/purchase between Stephens County and Bennett Office Equipment on behalf of the sheriff’s department for a copier, maintenance and supplies.
- Title Reports Complete on Non-BIA Parcels 2 and 3 submitted by Pinnacle Consulting Group, Inc. in the amount of $700 regarding JP Bridge over Little Beaver Creek
- Programming resolution for $1,232,000 funded by the states 100 percent County Improvements for Roads and Bridges Funds for bridges and approaches over little Beaver Creek replacing the low water crossing.
