Former student found dead at Empire school field house

DUNCAN — A coach found a former Empire Public Schools student dead in the field house Monday morning after the young man apparently hanged himself, officials said.

Empire Public Schools superintendent Vicki Davison said the young man had been a student at Empire until about a year ago.

Davison said grief counselors will be available to students, family and friends who may need to talk to someone about the incident.

A prayer meeting was held at Monday night at Fair Baptist Church at 3535 S. Empire Road.

“We’re a family here,” Davison said. “We take care of each other.”

The name of the former student has not been released by the Stephens County Sheriff’s Department.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
