Lions Club to hold rodeo Friday

MARLOW — Children will have a good excuse to ask their parents for a corn dog at the Noon Lions Club Open Rodeo Friday, because each dollar goes to provide food for hungry children.

Rodeo Chairman Joe Henderson said this is the first year in the rodeo’s 34-year history for a Friday promotion that allows children under 12 to purchase the $1 corn dogs and receive a free ticket to the last night of the show.

The rodeo raised approximately $900 in a similar promotion last year, he said.

The rodeo will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Stephens County Fair and Expo Center and last until Saturday.

“The rodeo has a family atmosphere, there’s nothing going on you wouldn’t want your children to see,” Henderson said.

The rodeo also offers a reduced family night rate on Thursday for $10 for two adults and their children, he said.

Otherwise, the price is $8 at the gate for adults and $3 for children between the ages of four and 12.

The rodeo is the largest fundraiser for the local Lion’s Club, which supports causes such as vision and Boy Scouts.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
