Trial date for Lane suspects could be scheduled today

DUNCAN — Two teenagers charged with first-degree murder are scheduled to appear for their district court arraignment at 9 a.m. today at Stephens County Courthouse.

Chancey Allen Luna, 17, and Michael Dewayne Jones, 18, are charged in the shooting death of Australian native Christopher Lane, who had come to Oklahoma to attend college on a baseball scholarship.

A trial date for the suspects could be set today.

Lane was fatally wounded in the back while jogging Aug. 16 near the intersection of Country Club Road and Twilight Beach. He was in Duncan visiting his girlfriend at the time.

The two suspects will appear before District Judge Joe Enos for their district court arraignment.

A third suspect, James Francis Edwards Jr., 16, has agreed to testify against Luna and Jones in exchange for a reduced sentence, according to prosecutors.
