Duncan's June rainfall continues to climb

DUNCAN — June has been the wettest month this year for Duncan, pulling in more than 6 inches so far.

As of 8 a.m. Monday, Duncan has received 13.87 inches for the year, after receiving 0.97 inches Monday morning. The 6.04 inches received this month make up nearly 44 percent of Duncan’s rainfall so far this year. At the same time in 2013, Duncan had received 15.23 inches for the year, but had only received 4.39 inches in June.

This June’s rainfall is the most significant rainfall received in Duncan this year. In January, Duncan received only 0.02 inches of precipitation. Although February’s total 0.46 inches was larger than January’s, it was still less than the remaining months, each of which surpassed February’s total by more than an inch.

In March, Duncan’s total was 1.77 inches. April’s total was 2.57 inches. And May’s total, which comes in second after June, was 3.01 inches.

June’s total has continued to increase with several days receiving about an inch or more in precipitation. Monday’s recorded rainfall was the fourth highest rainfall received in June, following the June 5 total of 1.21, the June 19 total of 1.39 and the June 8 total of 1.69.

So far this month, precipitation was recorded for eight days in June.

This month also has the highest rainfall for the month of June since 2007.

Of the past eight years, the lowest rainfall total was 0.07 inches for June 2011. The highest was 14.88 inches for June 2007. Other June rainfall totals include 3.27 in 2012, 4.69 inches in 2010, 1.96 inches in 2009 and 2.93 inches in 2008.

According to the National Weather Service, Duncan’s rainfall total may continue to climb this month. A 30 percent chance of rain has been forecasted for Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
