Investigation continues in shooting death of Elmore City man

DUNCAN —     The body of an Elmore City man fatally shot in Velma Wednesday morning was sent to the Oklahoma Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Stephens County Sheriff Wayne McKinney said officers found Justin Wayne White, 23, lying on Baseline Road west of County Road 2987 at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. A large caliber weapon was also found on scene, McKinney said.

The reporting party initially thought White had been run over, but officers found White was shot, he said.

McKinney said the Sheriff’s Department is investigating it as a homicide for the time being.

“This is no time for alarm,” McKinney said. “We’re not expecting shooters loose out in the county.”

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
