Former Duncan resident, Jan Weber Painton, 77, died May 25, 2014 in New Braunfels, Texas.
Jan is survived by two daughters, Kimber Painton and Kelly Nelson of Duncan, a son, Curtis Painton of Buda, Texas and five grandchildren – Zach and Ben Painton, Lisa Jackson, Anna and Kerry Stark.
A memorial service is scheduled for June 28, 2014 at Pulaski Heights Christian Church, Little Rock, Ark., at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to: “Children Worship and Wonder” Sunday School program at First Christian Church, 912 W Walnut, Duncan, or the Memorial Fund of Pulaski Heights Christian Church, 4724 Hillcrest Ave, Little Rock, Ark. 72205.
Jan was born to Louis and Evelyn Weber on July 5, 1936. Jan graduated from Phillips University with a Bachelor Degree in social work. Throughout her life she was an advocate for children – exemplified by her 30 year career investigating child abuse and as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Jan married Bill Painton in 1957 and they had four children, Curt, Kerry, Kim and Kelly. Kerry died in 1994 of breast cancer at the age of 33. The marriage ended in 1971. Jan enjoyed camping and spent summer vacations at archeology digs at the Toltec Mounds in Arkansas. An independent 1970’s woman - a favorite memory of her children was a month long camping adventure – traveling from Arkansas to the World’s Fair in Spokane, Wash. in a VW camper.
