Summer intern joins the Banner staff

DUNCAN — Charlene Belew has joined The Duncan Banner as a summer intern.    

Born in Fort Stewart, GA, Belew, 20, has lived in Lawton since she was four-years-old.

She is a junior at Cameron University and is pursuing a degree in communication with a concentration in journalism and a minor in biology. While her dream job is to one day work for National Geographic, Belew this month was named managing editor for The Cameron Collegian, the student newspaper.

Newswriting has been a significant part of her life. Belew began writing at the age of 14 for her high school newspaper at Lawton Eisenhower. After two years of staff writing, she served as an editor for The Patriot for two years. At the Collegian, she served as a staff writer for two semesters,  student life editor as and  sports editor.

After graduation, Belew plans to attend the University of Oklahoma to obtain her masters degree in communication.

  • Big game atmosphere VYPE picks Duncan to make playoffs

    Despite facing a rigorous schedule, Duncan was picked by VYPE’s preseason football preview to return to the postseason after a one-year hiatus.
    With new coach Craig Benson taking over this season, the magazine predicted Duncan will finish fourth in Class 5A District 1 ahead of Chickasha and behind Ardmore. The Demons are also ranked as the No. 16 team in the Class, with Lawton Mac being the highest ranked team in the district at No. 4.
