Former Empire student hangs himself at fieldhouse, official says

EMPIRE —

A coach found a former Empire Public Schools student dead in the field house Monday morning after the young man apparently hanged himself, officials said.

Empire Public Schools superintendent Vicki Davison said the student is about  18 years old and had been a student at Empire until he switched to a different school about a year ago.

Davison said grief counselors will be available to students, family and friends.

A prayer meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at Fair Baptist Church at 3535 S. Empire Road.

“We’re a family here,” Davison said. “We take care of each other.”

The name of the former student has not been released.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
