School board to discuss Labyer's resignation

DUNCAN — A special meeting of the Duncan Board of Education tonight will look at setting district goals while possibly accepting the resignation of Superintendent Sherry Labyer.

After 27 years of service with the school district, Labyer submitted her resignation to pursue a new career opportunity in the Accountability and Teacher Preparedness Department for the State of Oklahoma. Labyer has been superintendent for Duncan Public Schools since 2005.

School board members are set to go into executive session during the meeting to discuss Labyer’s resignation before approving it. If approved, her resignation will be effective Aug. 29.

Additionally, school board members and principals will meet for a strategic planning session. This session will result in setting district goals for Duncan schools. The school board meets for this purpose once a year.

The Duncan Board of Education meeting is set for 4 p.m. today in the Central Office building.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
