Elmore City man fatally shot in Velma

DUNCAN — An Elmore City man was killed in Velma early early Wednesday  in a shooting police are treating as a homicide, officials said.

The shooting took place on Baseline Road west of County Road 2987 at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Stephens County Sheriff Wayne McKinney said.

Justin Wayne White, 23, was  dead when officers arrived on the scene, he said.

“We’re handling this as a homicide now unless we learn otherwise,” McKinney said.

McKinney said his office received a call about a man lying on Baseline Road who appeared to have been run over, but upon arriving officers  realized  he had been shot.

Officers found a large caliber weapon at the scene, he said.

“This is no time for alarm,” McKinney said. “We’re not expecting shooters loose out in the county.”

McKinney said he wants to do a full investigation before releasing further information.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
