Mayor hosts inaugural Prayer Breakfast

DUNCAN — The inaugural Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast this morning evoked more interest than the Duncan Chamber of Commerce and Industry anticipated.

The chamber sold 216 tickets to the event and continued to receive inquiries that had to be declined because a head count had to be provided to the caterer, said Sandy Stewart, director of investor services for the chamber.

The chamber hoped it would sell 200 tickets to the prayer breakfast.

“Starting a new thing, you never know what kind of response you’re going to get,” Stewart said.

The gathering is inspired by the National Day of Prayer observance in Washington, D.C., which also takes place on Thursday.

The speaker for the Duncan event will be State Sen. Corey Brooks, R-Washington, who has been asked to speak on how prayer has affected his personal and professional life.

Mayor Gene Brown will be given a special award at the prayer breakfast.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
