Gary Housman

DUNCAN — Gary Housman,67, of Hillsboro, Texas, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014 in Waco, Texas.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the Carter-Smart Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Hall officiating. Interment will be at the Duncan Cemetery, arrangements are under the direction of Carter-Smart Funeral Home.

Family visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Gary was born Nov. 23, 1946 in Miami, Okla. to William and Mary Ann (Harp) Housman. Gary graduated with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma. He was a Senior Analyst with Express Currier International in Hillsboro, Texas, where he and Gwen had lived for the past 13 years. Gary married Gwendolyn “Gwen” Whetstone June 5, 1970 in Duncan. Gary had a great sense of humor and a wonderful way of making people laugh. He loved animals of all kinds, especially his two cats, Moxie and Pretty Boy. Being in the water was one of his passions and some of his best times were spent on his boat at Joe Pool Lake. He was an avid Sooner fan and NASCAR enthusiast. He was a ham radio operator (KK4NV) for over 35 years and enjoyed talking to people all over the world. Gary was a good, kind, and generous man. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Gwen of the home, brother and sister-in-laws, Robert and Susan Whetstone, Beverly Mitchell and Phillip and Diann Jones, also several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Jones, Shane Careathers, Tyler Whetstone, Clayton Jones, Brandon Careathers and Elijah Jones.

Friends and family are invited to gather at the Recovery Church at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m.

    Despite facing a rigorous schedule, Duncan was picked by VYPE’s preseason football preview to return to the postseason after a one-year hiatus.
    With new coach Craig Benson taking over this season, the magazine predicted Duncan will finish fourth in Class 5A District 1 ahead of Chickasha and behind Ardmore. The Demons are also ranked as the No. 16 team in the Class, with Lawton Mac being the highest ranked team in the district at No. 4.
