Municipal band prepares for second concert of season

DUNCAN — With 10 new members joining the Chisholm Trail Municipal Band, the second concert for the summer series is set to take place Thursday.

Starting at 8 p.m.,  musicians will make the Fuqua Park gazebo their stage for the evening.

Jeramy Haas, band director, said the concert will be focused more on medleys than the previous concert. Some medleys will contain James Bond themed songs, cartoon themed songs as well as a mixture of spooky songs.

The band, which practices Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 - 9 p.m. in the Duncan High School band room, is still accepting new members.

“We’re continuing to grow a little bit,” he said. “We actually will be probably having some members coming in all the way up until the last practice before the Fourth of July concert which is on the third. We always try to encourage anyone to play.”

Haas said that the first concert of the series brought in an average amount of people.

“I was happy with the crowd that was there,” he said. “The numbers were consistent to the first concert last year. It always seems like as we go along in the season, we have more of an audience.”

The concert is free. Attendees should bring their own seating for the event.

For more information on how to join the band or on the upcoming concerts, contact Haas at 580-656-2468 or band president Jennifer Bivens at 580-470-8112.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
