Terry Odis Gray

Dec. 17, 1944 - June 11, 2014

DUNCAN — Terry Odis Gray, “Tators”, 69 years old, from Duncan, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at home, where he wanted to be with his wife, Pat, and family after fighting his short battle with cancer.

Terry was born Dec. 17, 1944 in Duncan to Odis and Nadine (Lowry) Gray. He is from the Comanche Class of 1964. Terry also joined the United States National Guard, 158th Field Artillery in 1964. Terry married his wife and best friend, Patsy Ann Youngblood on June 28, 1965. Then in May 1988, Terry graduated from Murray State in Tishomingo with his Gun Smith License. He was a lifetime member of NRA and a member of Prairie Hill Church of Christ.

Terry’s employment included: working in the oilfield, at Elliott Mobile Homes, and retired from Halliburton Field Camp as a bulk cement driver. His hobbies included: fishing, hunting, gun repair, and anything having to do with guns, playing dominos and cards. Most of all, Terry enjoyed attending his grandkids activities.

Survived by: Pat, of the home, married 17 days shy of 49 years. Daughters: Karen Riedel and husband, Gilbert of Duncan and Kathy Perkins and husband, Bill of Elmer. Grandkids: Dayton Martindale, Tyler Perkins, Logan Martindale, Megan Perkins, and Jaxon Riedel. Brothers: Carroll Wayne Gray and wife, Jaretta of Comanche; Sammy Kim Gray of Collinsville.  Sister: Nelda Beth Hudson and husband, Andy of Collinsville. Sister-in-laws: Kay Gray of Comanche; Joyce Lister and Shirley Willson of Duncan; Brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenny and Mary Youngblood, Comanche. Survived by one uncle, Bill Lowry, and also by several special nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Terry was preceded in death by: daughter, Brenda Ann Gray; parents, Odis and Nadine (Lowry) Gray; brother, Tommy O. Gray;  brother-in-laws, Jimmie Youngblood, Eugene Lister, and Floyd Willson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cecil and Rita Youngblood; grandparents, Will and Mary Gray and Albert and Emma Lowry; along with several aunts and uncles including Hugh Lowry, a Special Uncle who Terry called “His Hero”.

Family Visitation will be Friday, June 13, 2014 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Carter-Smart Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Carter-Smart Funeral Home and officiated by Mario Pineda, from Prairie Hill Church of Christ and Mike Sweetman, nephew-in-law, will share family stories. Burial following service at Duncan Cemetery.

Honorary Pallbearers and Special Friends: Kenneth and Amaleta Hightower, Jim Woods, David Simpson, David Smith, Bob Jones, Monte Vowell and “Sparky”.  Pallbearers: Dayton and Logan Martindale, Bill, Tyler, and Megan Perkins, and Gilbert, Jaxon, and Gary Riedel.

Special Thanks to Dr. Crow, Dr. Chohan, and Dr. Warren Low and all the Nursing Staff for the good care they provided to Terry. Terry appreciated greatly all the visits from family and friends in his last days and all the help provided in the family’s time of need. Terry told Pat, “It couldn’t have been any better.” He had no grudges, no hard feelings towards anyone, everything was right with him.
