Arts council moves to new location

DUNCAN — Chisholm Trail Arts Council packed up its things and moved to a new location about a block away.

With its move to 810 W. Walnut, CTAC is able to grow its organization and host various programs within its office space.

Loisdawn Jones,  president of the CTAC Board, said the move will be a beneficial one.

“It’s so much larger than the space across from the post office,” Jones said.

The new office isn’t open yet, but there are plans to host a grand opening and a ribbon cutting in September. Jones said this will give CTAC all summer to get the office organized and unpacked.

One of the benefits of the larger space is CTAC will have room for a small gallery to display local art. By waiting to open the space until September, the organization will have time to start developing the gallery.

The bigger space will enable the arts council to hold classes, Jones said.

Coincidentally, CTAC will keep busy during the week of July 14 because of such classes.

Arts Explosion is set to begin July 14 and will run throughout the week. Each year, CTAC hosts Arts Explosion, a program aimed at instill a passion for art in elementary students. In previous years, students have worked on kites, tie-dye projects, drawing and ceramics.

This year, a teen camp is being added to the program with afternoon classes Monday through Wednesday of the same week. The art projects will be aimed at a more mature audience than those aimed at elementary students.

Jones said the week will also include night classes for adults. Those classes will include ballroom dancing, cooking and painting.
