DUNCAN — Funeral for former Lawton resident Maurine O’Kelley, 92, Duncan will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the First Christian Church in Duncan with Rev. Arnold Nelson officiating.

Mrs. O’Kelley died Sunday, May 18, 2014 in Duncan.

Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Lawton under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

The family will greet friends from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the funeral home.

She was born Dec. 22, 1921 in Latham, Kan. to George Ray and Leila (Scheurer) Morlan. Mrs. O’Kelley also lived in Okeene, Snyder and Lawton. She graduated from Okeene High School in 1938. She married Robert E. O’Kelley on July 19, 1942 in the Little Chapel of the Wichitas. He died May 4, 1997. While in Okeene, she worked at the hospital and at a department store. She also worked at the telephone office in Snyder. She worked many years as a volunteer for the Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton.

Maurine was very active in many church activities while living in Snyder and in Lawton. While living in Lawton, she was the recipient of the Church Woman of the Year at Liberty Heights Christian Church. She also served as president of Christian Women’s Fellowship and taught Sunday School and Summer Vacation Bible School for many years. She was Lawton Citizen of the month in January 1992. Mrs. O’Kelley was a member of the First Christian Church in Duncan.

Maurine was a homemaker in the true sense of the word. She always strived to make sure the needs of the family were met.  Maurine loved sports and would now be considered a “Sports Mom.” She had a particular passion for basketball that she developed while playing for the Okeene High School Whippets.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Ann Aeilts and her husband Richard of Arlington, Texas, two sons: Robert Ray O’Kelley and his wife Rita and Chris O’Kelley and his wife Carla, all of Duncan, twelve grandchildren and their spouses, Melissa and Mike Handley, Shannon and Frank Hester, Kimberly and Bobby Hood, Stacey and Brad Teal, Heidi and David Cramton, Kristen and Craig Dean, Tyler and Sarah Yarborough, Ryan O’Kelley, Kevin O’Kelley, Mallory and Chance Winslett, Molly and Cam Edgar and Claire O’Kelley and eighteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Thelma Leisher.
