Torrez pleads guilty to child abuse by injury

DUNCAN — A Duncan man pleaded guilty Thursday to child abuse by injury for inflicting severe injuries to his infant son.

Sentencing for Ricky Lee Torrez, 33, is set for 1:30 p.m. March 4 in Stephens County District Court. Torrez pleaded guilty without a plea bargain agreement, District Attorney Jason Hicks said.

He faces up to life in prison.

“It will be a significant amount of time because of the injuries: A fractured skull, brain swelling issues,” Hicks said.

Torrez, arrested in July,  admitted he slammed the 3-month-old on a changing table after being frustrated by another child in the household, according to the arrest affidavit.
