CENTRAL HIGH —
It didn’t take long for the Central High faithful to get excited about the new look Lady Bronchos.
After one quarter, CHHS was in firm control against Big Pasture.
Even though the Lady Rangers only suited up six players, the Lady Bronchos took them very serious, and showed it in their play, resulting in a convincing 52-35 victory in Saturday night’s season opener.
“We were ready to play,” Central High coach Chad Weldon said. “These girls have been practicing for over a month now. It was time to come out and play and I thought our seniors did a really outstanding job tonight.”
Outstanding in the way that three of the four seniors totaled double digit points on the evening.
Lora-Lynn Loomis (18), Lacie Phillips (12), and Caitlyn White (10) helped propel the Lady Bronchos out to a 23-5 lead with 6:05 left in the first half.
As a team on the evening, CHHS shot 46 percent from 3-point range, while going 32 percent from the charity stripe.
“We’re only going to go as far as our seniors will take us,” Weldon said. “Big Pasture is a good team and they played like it. I’m expecting our seniors to play and lead us like they did tonight in every game this season.”
Big Pasture very rarely threatened, with the exception of early in the first quarter, as the Lady Bronchos were firing on all cylinders on opening night.
“I can’t do it by myself out there,” Loomis said. “These girls help screen for me and I just try to do my job by finishing my shots. Good passes equal good shots and we were doing the little things right out there tonight.”
Central High (1-0) led 41-25 at the end of the third quarter, keeping the Lady Rangers at bay in the fourth.
Other scorers for the Lady Bronchos included Faith Harris with eight points and Alelia Daniels with two points.
Big Pasture (3-2) was led in scoring by Allison Lucas, Carly Davis and Keyhna Glass who all scored eight points on the evening.
Tuesday night will see the Lady Bronchos travel to Bray-Doyle for a 6:30 p.m. game
