Area wrestlers shine at state Jr. High meet

DUNCAN — Duncan and Comanche’s young grapplers returned to Stephens County with some hardware this week as they wrapped up the junior high wrestling season.

Six area wrestlers placed in the top six at the All-State Junior High Championships over the weekend with four finishing in the top three of their respective weight classes.

Duncan freshman Hunter Kelly earned second place in the 133-pound weight class, while classmate Tyler Hicks was fourth at 128 pounds.

Ryan Akers of Comanche finished third at 138 pounds.

In the sixth and seventh-grade division, Comanche had three top-six finishers. Dailen Presgrove was second at 140 pounds, Jaxon Miller was third at 72 pounds and Gage Miller was sixth at 76 pounds.

The Junior High Championships are highly competitive with more than 1,000 student-athletes taking part this year. According to okwrestle.com, there were 659 wrestlers registered for the tournament in the 7-9th grade division and another 392 registered for the 6-7th grade division.
