DUNCAN — For a little more than two quarters, thing were going according to plan for the Duncan boys’ basketball team at the East Central Oklahoma Classic.

A cold spell quickly changed that.

The Demons, who had hit eight 3-pointers and led by six points early in the third period suddenly went cold and that’s all Ponca City needed as it surged past Duncan for a 54-47 win in their opening round game at Ada.

“We couldn’t buy a bucket,” Duncan coach Mikel Davison said. “We had the lead early in the third quarter and then our defense just broke down. They got some cheap bumps and easy stuff and then pulled the ball.”

The Demons move to the consolation round, where they will play Choctaw at 11:30 a.m. today.

Senior Cade Baldwin led Duncan (5-6) with 15 points, while senior Jack Braught had 13 and junior Isiah Ervin added nine. Senior Carter David finished with four points, junior DeAndre Vermaire had three and sophomore Ben Peterson added three.
