Area players get votes on Oklahoman All-State team

DUNCAN — While Stephens County wasn’t represented on The Oklahoman’s All-State Football Team’s first or second squad, seven were in the running, earning honorable mention nods.

Duncan’s Derek McKnight, The Duncan Banner Defensive Player of the Year, was named an honorable mention defensive lineman, as was teammate Caleb Longest. Jack Braught was named honorable mention as a kicker/punter.

Velma-Alma’s Dallen Mercer, The Duncan Banner Offensive Player of the Year and a first-team linebacker on the Oklahoma Coaches Association All State Team, was named honorable mention at running back, while teammate Checotah Lynn was an honorable mention wide receiver.

Comanche’s Kale Reed was named an honorable mention quarterback and teammate Zachary Young was an honorable mention defensive back.
