DUNCAN — A former Duncan Demon wrestler is now making his mark for the Bronchos of Central Oklahoma University.

This past weekend at the Bob Smith Open hosted by Fort Hays State University in Kansas, Casey Rowell ran roughshod over the competition.

As a result of his strong performance, Rowell was named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Wrestler of the Week.

Rowell, who finished fifth in the nation last season at 141 pounds, dropped a division to 133-pounds for this year.

The junior All-American dominated in the 133-pound division as the No. 2 seed, going a perfect 5-0 for the tournament, also recording three bonus-point wins along the way.

After opening the tournament with a second period pin, he followed it up with a 15-0 technical decision.

In the quarterfinals, Rowell collected a 7-3 victory, before winning a close 8-6 decision over Eric Hughes from Labette Community College.

Air Force’s Greg Rinker was the final person to be defeated by Rowell in the finals by a 10-2 score.

No. 3 ranked UCO will be making its home debut Friday night Dec. 7 against Fort Hays State University.
