A journey always begins with the first step.
Monday night saw Bray-Doyle take its first step to possibly returning to playing eight-man football following the 2013 season.
At a scheduled school board meeting, it was voted 4-1 to approve the Donkeys sending in the paperwork to the OSSAA office for consideration to be moved down.
“The numbers of our kids and the size of our school played a huge part in the voting for this decision,” B-D athletic director John Strickland said. “When you can’t even have two squads at football practice, it makes life difficult for everyone involved.”
Fans though, will have to wait a while before an official announcement is made by the OSSAA office.
“We can expect a decision about 2014 sometime around September,” Strickland said. “August will begin the period of when consideration starts. Just because we’re getting our paperwork in early doesn’t mean we’ll get to move down though. It just depends on certain criteria.”
Should the Donkeys return to eight man, district pairings will then be announced by the OSSAA office.
