DUNCAN — Duncan’s football game at Del City Friday will be just the eighth meeting between the teams.

The two teams faced each other last year in District 1-5A action, but before that, they had not played each other since 1969.

Demon coach Jim Holloway explained that Del City has been in Class 6A for many years and just fell below the cutoff point for Class 5A last year.

“Their student enrolllment was down by just two students to get into 5A,” Holloway said.

The teams first played each other from 1964 to 1969, with Duncan sweeping those games. Holloway noted that Del City’s student population was “just starting to grow” at that point.

Last year, Del City won 23-3. The Demons (3-2, 3-4) are aiming for a different outcome, considering they and the Eagles (4-1, 5-3) are vying for third in the district.

The Demons are getting plenty of production from senior running back Je’Mario McCoy, who is averaging 8 yards per carry through seven games. Senior quarterback Connor Kelly has done his share, averaging 6.7 yards.

On defense, sophomore Hunter Kelly leads the Demons with 89 tackles, 3.5 for a loss. Connor Kelly has tallied 38 tackles and senior Nathan Clark has 36.
