DUNCAN — Duncan will look to keep its football playoff hopes alive in a District 1-5A showdown at Lawton MacArthur Thursday.

The Highlanders (2-1, 4-2) hold an 24-18 edge over the Demons (2-1, 2-3) since 1974. The last time the Demons defeated MacArthur was in 2009, a 35-34 victory.

The winner of Thursday’s game will gain an edge in the race for second place in the district. Ardmore holds first place with a 3-0 district record.

Duncan will look to improve its punting game. The Demons have averaged just 32.4 yards per punt in five games and just 25.8 yards per punt in last week’s 28-0 loss to Ardmore.

The battle of field position will be important, given MacArthur’s performance in its last two games. The Highlanders are coming off a 56-21 win against Chickasha last week. Two weeks ago, they defeated Southeast 48-13.

DEMON NOTES: Seniors Connor Kelly and Je’Mario McCoy are forming a good duo in the running game. McCoy has averaged 8.1 yards per carry in five games while Kelly has averaged 5.7. Junior Bryce Byford has emerged at fullback, averaging 6.1 yards per carry... Sophomore Hunter Kelly leads the Demons with 69 tackles. Junior Jerad Wolfe is second on the team with 25.
