The Duncan Banner
Bob Morris, a 14-year sports writing veteran in New Mexico, has been named sports editor of The Duncan Banner
He is already at work, coordinating high school, college and participatory coverage for the award-winnng section. He replaces Sean Gorman, who accepted the sports editor’s role in Gainesville, Texas.
“We’re delighted to have someone of Bob’s experience and enthusiasm,” Ed Darling, publisher of The Banner, said. “He understands community journalism and he knows sports. That’s a great combination for Duncan and Stephens County and should serve us well in maintaining a tradition of excellence in that important area.”
Morris comes to Duncan from Raton, N.M., where for the past 14 years he guided sports coverage for The Raton Range, winning awards through the New Mexico Press Association for sports writing and columns, feature writing and photography.
“I’m really looking forward to working for The Duncan Banner,” Morris said. “When I first visited Duncan, I was immediately impressed with the community.”
Prior to his work in Raton, he spent five years as a general assignment reporter for the Daily Gazette in Rocky Ford, Colo.
He is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in political science.
