The Duncan Banner
With the regular season right around the corner, area softball fans will get the chance to see several Stephens County teams play their final preseason contests at the annual Duncan Festival later this week.
Central High, Velma-Alma, Waurika, host school Duncan and nine others teams will take the field throughout the day Thursday Friday at Lady Demon Field for a series of scrimmages.
The action begins at 9 a.m. Thursday with Waurika facing off against Lawton Eisenhower.
“It’s a great chance for the team to get back on the field, while also having a key fundraiser for out program,” Duncan head coach Robert Cowan said. “Getting out there and playing these teams will be a big help for us to get ready for the regular season.”
The other teams competing include Elgin, Chattanooga, Lawton Macarthur, Lawton High, Chickasha, Sterling, the Duncan Red team and Mangum.
Duncan will open against Elgin (1:40 p.m.) and Chattanooga (7:30 p.m.) Thursday and finish play Friday against Sterling (11:20 a.m.) and Stephens County rival Central High (2:50 p.m.).
After playing the opening game, Waurika will continue against Chickasha (11:20 a.m.) Thursday before facing Sterling (9 a.m.) and Lawton Macarthur (10:10 a.m.) in back to back games Friday.
Along with facing the Lady Demons, Central will take on Macarthur (4 p.m.) and Lawton High (5:10 p.m.).
The Lady Comets will only play Friday, facing Macarthur (12:30 p.m.) and Central.
