CENTRAL HIGH — Central High got its fourth shutout of the season on Friday with a 46-0 victory against Cyril.

The Bronchos (8-2, 7-2) have allowed just 176 points this season in 10 games of 8-man football. They will play Pond Creek-Hunter, which was blown out 40-6 by reigning Class B state champ Laverne this Friday, in the first round of the state playoffs. The win against Cyril (4-5, 4-5) gave Central High a two-game win streak.

“We played well together as a team,” Central High coach Burton said. “I think that was important for us going to the playoffs next week.”

“Hitting on all cylinders” was the way Burton described it and he was glad the defense could get back to keeping the opponent out of the end zone. The Bronchos’ last two wins followed a two straight losses to Fox and Alex.

“It’s good to get back to that and see that happen,” Burton said.

Senior Kevin Harris led the way offensively once again. His ability to scrap for extra yards on inside runs is what impressed Burton the most.

“After we got a lead, we started running the ball and keeping the ball on the ground quite a bit,” Burton said. “He did a really good job running up in there and getting some tough yards at times.”

Central High will travel on the road to Pond Creek-Hunter (9-1, 8-1). It will be a 162 mile trek for the Bronchos, who lost 58-12 to Laverne last year in the first round.
