Six receive all-district honors

DUNCAN — Six Duncan softball players were recognized as among the best players in District 2-5A.

Catcher Berkley Faulkner was named the district’s Offensive Most Valuable Player, Corrina Rivas was named a first-team pitcher and K.K. Williams was named a first-team middle infielder. Kennedy Stewart and Kortney Brown were named to the second team and Autumn Parker received honorable mention.

Lady Demon coach Robert Cowan said Faulkner and Rivas “meant everything to the team.”

Faulkner, a junior, led the Lady Demons with nine home runs and 12 doubles. Rivas, a freshman, struck out 237 batters in 28 games.

Williams, who moved to Duncan from Lawton, was a pleasant surprise this season, Cowan said.

“I knew I was getting a pretty good player, but she turned out better than I thought she was going to be,” he said.

Wiliams, a sophomore, had 92 putouts at shortstop. She batted .400 and led the Lady Demons with 39 runs batted in.

Brown, a senior, hit .352 this season. She batted in the ninth position, a move Cowan said was made to get a runner on base when leadoff hitter Faulkner came up to bat.

Stewart manned third base as a freshman and batted .379. She led the Lady Demons with 41 runs scored.

“That nucleus of girls had awesome seasons,” Cowan said.

Parker, a senior, received an additional honor, as she was selected an alternate for the Oklahoma High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association’s all-star game.

“I’m tickled for her,” Cowan said. “Autumn did all the pitching for us last year and carried the load. This year, she stepped into centerfield and did a great job.”

  • Duran Duran has one obstacle left: State

Midway through her sophomore year, Comanche’s Alexis Duran had her athletic life taken away from her, but this spring she got it back in spectacular fashion.
An ACL tear in basketball kept the three-sport star out for a full year before she got to compete again in track as a junior. Duran didn’t just show up and run, she pushed for medals and came just shy of making the state tournament, finishing one spot away by a tenth of a second.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
