The stage is now set for the Lady Demons in regionals.
The Duncan High School softball team will host a four-team regional tournament Oct. 9-10. Although the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association originally listed the games for Oct. 10-11, Lady Demon coach Robert Cowan said the four teams agreed to move the tourney dates.
It will be the second straight year that Duncan will host softball regionals.
Duncan opens against Northwest Classen at noon Thursday, Oct. 10, followed by Ardmore playing El Reno at 2 p.m. The winners face each other at 6 p.m. and the losers play each other at 4 p.m.
“You don’t ever want to overlook anybody, but if we play, we should win,” Cowan said.
The biggest test for Duncan may come from El Reno, Cowan said. El Reno is 22-7 for the season.
Although the Lady Demons are coming off what wasn’t their best game against Marlow Tuesday, Cowan said he expects his players will regain their focus for the postseason.
“That’s what happens on Senior Night — we don’t play well,” Cowan said. “It’s my fault for scheduling an opponent of that quality in our final game. But then agian, it might have been an attention getter.”
Although there will be plenty of preparation for players and coaches as the high school gets the fields ready, Cowan said he expects the Lady Demons to be ready.
“There is the home-field advantage and thus having more fans,” he said. “The girls are pumped up because it’s at home.”
