DUNCAN — The Duncan High School softball team got a solo home run from junior Berkley Faulkner to open Thursday’s game at Chickasha.

But Faulkner’s shot accounted for the Lady Demons’ only run. They lost 3-1.

Lady Demon coach Robert Cowan noted that the Lady Chicks would not pitch to Faulkner following her solo home run. In the bottom of the seventh, she came to the plate with two outs and two runners on base and the Lady Chicks walked her, then got the final out after that.

The Lady Demons had runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the sixth but couldn’t bring in any runs.

“We’re a little disappointed because we played them twice and had two chances to beat them,” Cowan said.

Still, he is happy with how the season has gone and the fact Duncan will host a regional game.

“If we get to play (Chickasha) again, it will be in the state finals,” he said.

The Lady Demons tallied five hits. Along with Faulkner’s ninth home run of the season, getting hits were Corrina Rivas, K.K. Williams, Sara McCormick and Kennedy Stewart.

Rivas took the mound, giving up five hits and striking out eight.
