Five Duncan football seniors received All-Distrct 1-5A honors.
Those named to the all-district team were quarterback Connor Kelly, running back Je’Mario McCoy, offensive lineman Alyx Turner, defensive tackle Daniel Moore and punter Cody Hood.
The all-district players are selected by the coaches. Only seniors are eligible for selection.
Demon coach Jim Holloway said the contributions of the five all-district players, as well as those from the other seniors, were invaluable this season.
“Even though we had just eight seniors, this was a pretty unique group,” Holloway said. “They endured playing football all through middle school, all the way through high school.
“We always tell our kids that football is not for everybody. It takes a special group of kids who love to be competitive and love the nature of the sport. They wanted the rewards you gain by playing football.”
Holloway said that those rewards are not just what a player does on the field, but what a player learns about life.
“The things we teach and instill in our kids will get these guys beyond high school,” he said.
And this year’s group of seniors was strong at “carrying the torch” and providing leadership all season long, Holloway said.
“I was really proud of the way they conducted themselves and the way they led the rest of our players,” he said.
