The Duncan Banner
After making the most of their senior years on the golf course, Duncan’s Alyson Wilcox and Comanche’s Emilee White were recognized for their efforts by coaches across the state Wednesday.
The duo was selected as some of the top high school female golfers in Oklahoma, getting named to the West half of the All-State team.
“Of course it’s real meaningful,” Lady Demons coach Steve Ethridge said. “It’s something that seniors look forward to at the beginning of the season. Alyson had a great season and she certainly earned the award.”
A total of 24 golfers were selected to the team, with 12 playing for the West and 12 for the East.
“For Emilee, I don’t know if I’ve had a player work as hard as her in the six years that I’ve coached here,” Comanche coach Sean Hushbeck said. “She’s had an impressive career and it’s awesome that it resulted in this award.”
In her last year with the Lady Demons, Wilcox led the way when it counted most, leading the team with a sixth place finish. Wilcox also played a key role in Duncan’s state title during her junior year two years ago.
White made history for the Lady Indians in 2013, finishing with the highest ranking at the Class 3A State Tournament in school history by taking sixth place. She took first place at Marlow’s tournament, finished as the runner up in the Lake Country Conference Tournament and took third at regionals.
Like Wilcox, White experienced championship success before her senior year, helping Comanche win two straight state titles in her sophomore and junior seasons.
The All-State Golf tournament will take place at 8:30 a.m. July 29 at Cherokee Hills Golf Club.
