12 Stephens County wrestlers state bound

DUNCAN — If all goes as planned this weekend, Stephens County could be bringing home some serious gold from Oklahoma City.

In total 12 varsity wrestlers will be competiting at the State Fairgrounds Arena starting on Friday morning, with the finals set for Saturday night in all weight divisions.

From Comanche the Indians will be sending Corey Williams (14-13) at 113 pounds, Ricky Kelly (24-9) at 126 pounds, and JonWayne Townsend (35-2) at 138 pounds.

Kelly and Townsend both made the Class 3A regional championship bouts over the weekend in Kingfisher, with Townsend winning and Kelly earning runner-up.

Class 5A Duncan will be represented by regional champion MarkWae Sanders at 113 pounds, Jett Gray in the 120 pound division, Connor Kelly at 145 pounds, Christian Carnahan (30-9) at 152 pounds and Cameron McGill (29-9) in the 220 pound division.

Sanders (34-1) will meet Michael Lopez (30-13) of Piedmont in his first round match, while Gray (26-13) will face off with Donald Cannon (29-3) from McAlester High School.

Connor Kelly (31-7) will face Kaleb Hinds of Claremore (23-10).

Marlow will send Logan Knox in the 113 pound division, along with Cody Scroggins (13-7) at 132 pounds, Seth Scarbrough (32-9) at 145 pounds.

Chris Davis is listed as an alternate in the 126 pounds division.

Knox (27-10) claimed second place over the weekend, and will meet Anthony Jacregui (31-4) of Tonkawa in the first round.
