Outlaws beat Washington for second time

DUNCAN — Earlier this season, the Marlow Outlaws surprised some people when they defeated then-ranked Washington on the road.

Saturday afternoon, MHS showed it was anything but a fluke as the Outlaws made it 2-for-2 with a 50-33 victory over the Warriors at a neutral site game from Newcastle High School.

“We played really well from start to finish,” Marlow coach John Garrett said. “They (Washington) had a small run to open the third quarter, but we were able to answer it pretty fast. We kept playing really well especially on the defensive end.”

Marlow asserted its authority early on in the first half, resulting in a 26-13 halftime advantage.

A 15-13 run in the third quarter gave the Outlaws some breathing room going into the fourth, where MHS outscored the Warriors 9-7.

“Any win before the start of the playoffs is huge,” Garrett said. “Our last couple of games, we haven’t played really well so this was a really good thing for us. We might see this same team down the road in the area tournament should we make it that far. This game prepared us for the types of teams we’ll see in the playoffs.”

Zac Beasler led the Outlaws (13-9) scoring barrage with 19 points followed by Kirby Neufeld with 10 points.

Braeden O’Dell added nine points, with Jackson Huddleston and Wes Coast each putting in five points.

Kris McCarley rounded out the scoring for Marlow with two points.

Marlow’s playoff journey will begin on Friday night Feb. 15 (8 p.m.) against Frederick at Frederick High School in the district round of the playoffs.

TUTTLE 36 MARLOW 34

Saturday afternoon saw the Lady Outlaws two game winning streak come to a screeching halt as the Tuttle Lady Tigers claimed a narrow 36-34 victory over Marlow.

The Lady Outlaws will enter the playoffs sporting an overall record of 13-9, and will also play against Frederick in the district round of the playoffs starting on Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m. from Frederick High School.
