DUNCAN — This season has been one full of surprises for the Lady Bulldogs.

Last week, the roller coaster ride continued as EHS played in the Longhorn Invitational Tournament which was hosted by Alex High School.

GIRLS

EMPIRE 32 PAOLI 20

Game one of the tournament saw a low-scoring contest between the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Pugs.

Ultimately though, an 11-3 scoring advantage in the third quarter was just the push Empire needed to claim victory over PHS.

After being down 15-14 going into halftime, EHS managed to outscore Paoli 18-6 in the second half to claim their 11th victory of the season.

Melaina Yearby led the scoring with seven points, followed by Alyssa George, Kaelyn Allensworth and Ashlie Atkinson all with six points.

CEMENT 44 EMPIRE 39

Things went south for the Lady Bulldogs in their second game against Cement.

An eight-point first half was too much to overcome as CHS took full advantage with a 19-8 halftime lead.

“We had eight points in the first half and came out real flat,” Empire coach Jason Allensworth said. “Ultimately that’s what came back to haunt us was that slow start.”

Empire did manage to outscore Cement 31-25 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to claim victory.

Kaelyn Allensworth finished with 12 points, followed by Melaina Yearby with eight points.

ALEX 54 EMPIRE 50 F/OT

Against the Lady Longhorns, it was the three point shot which ultimately spelled doom for Empire.

Five made shots from behind the arc got AHS back into the game after being down 27-22 at halftime.

In the end, the momentum was enough to carry Alex to a 54-50 overtime triumph.

Melaina Yearby led the scoring for EHS (11-4) with 16 points, followed by Ashlie Atkinson with 14 points. Alyssa George added 10 points.
