VELMA — While the weather might have been unpredictable at times on Saturday, it didn’t stop more than 10 teams from hitting the waters in search of big mouth bass.

The end result was a competitive field in the first ever Father’s Day Blowout Bass Tournament, which was sponsored by the Velma-Alma Ag boosters.

All of the proceeds from the event went to the V-A Ag boosters.

There was plenty of stories and laughs being shared at the picnic grounds, along with plenty of fresh hamburgers straight off the grill in anticipation of the final weigh-in Saturday night.

For the weigh-in the teams brought their three biggest fish they caught, with the total combined weight determining who walked away with the overall team title for the event.

In the end though, it was a clean sweep for the team of Jimmy and Brandon Sanner, whose total combined fish brought in a weight of 13.94 pounds, giving them the team title.

Jimmy Sanner also came away with the award for the biggest fish caught in the tournament, as he hauled in a bass weighing 5.53 pounds.

Second place belonged to the duo of Chuck Turner and Jason Smith, who brought in an impressive total of 12.58 pounds with their three bass.

Last but certainly not least in the top three, was the team of Creede and Richie Wright who brought home a total of 12.27 pounds with their catch of bass.
